Overview
Land Conversion means changing the land classification from agricultural (Shali/Bagan) to residential or commercial (Bastu) for construction or development.
In West Bengal, you cannot legally build houses, apartments, hotels, or commercial projects on agricultural land without conversion approval.
Land conversion approval is obtained from the Block Land & Land Reforms Office (BLRO) or District Land Department.
If construction is done without conversion, authorities may:
- Stop construction
- Impound property
- Imp ose penalties
- Reject building plan approval
